Online sessions are actually very similar to in person sessions in terms of the work we accomplish together. But since we’re meeting online, instead of in my physical office, there are a few things you can do to prepare and make the experience more seamless.
Download the zoom app, here, onto your device prior to your session.
If you’re using an older device, you may need a webcam that attaches to the top of the screen, most newer devices have these built in. Headphones may also help improve the sound quality and ensure more privacy.
If possible, plug in direct to your ethernet or be near your Wifi router, this will greatly improve your connection and reduce technical hiccups.
With online sessions, more of the responsibility to ensure your privacy falls on you. Plan to set yourself up in a secure location away from interruptions. Try to be in a room with a closed door. Turn off any ‘intelligent assistants’ like Siri or Alexa.
Set up your device’s camera at eye level, approximately 3 or 4 feet away from you and get comfortable so we can sit back and talk like we would in the room together. Try to ensure that the light is facing you or beside you, not behind you so I can see your face.
Minimize distractions. Turn off or silence your phone. Close any other tabs on your computer.
Log in a few minutes prior to your session. When you log into my virtual office you’ll arrive in my online waiting room. I’ll welcome you into your session at our appointed time.
Plan to attend your virtual session as you would in-person. If your (parked) vehicle, bedroom or bathroom is the best private space you can arrange we’ll make it work. Limit distractions best you can. Attend our sessions sober, awake, and fully dressed. When needed, please excuse yourself from the meeting, by turning off your camera and muting your microphone, to use the restroom.
